Duck Decoys

Francis Roch

Francis Roch was born in Minneapolis in 1914. His father Frank had immigrated from Bohemia(Czech Republic) and moved his family, including sons Francis and Jerry, to Oshkosh to start a custom woodworking business. Francis and Jerry became the only employees of Roch & Sons and when their father passed the boys became the owners. In a 1986 interview, Frank listed woodworking and duck decoy carving as his passions. The mallard pair shown on his page have the year 1939 on the bottom so the pair would have been made when Francis was 25. The decoys are well-carved and painted. It is not known how many decoys were made, but if he carved for 50 years there must be more out there…..
