Franklin "Frannie" Pieper
Frank "Frannie" Pieper was born in Mayville in 1916. He worked at Gleason Reel and hunted, trapped and fished on Horicon Marsh his entire life, only interrupted by a stint in the army from 1943-1946. During this time he was an artillery man during the invasion of Iwo Jima. He made his own 16' skiff and his own decoys. He shot a double barrel shotgun and his best year on ducks was 1938 when he cleaned 130 ducks for his family and gave more to his neighbors. Fannie died in August of 2016. He was 100 years of age.
